Bettieann Harvey

Bettieann Harvey has been receiving Medicaid Service Coordination from ACHIEVE since April of 2002. When she first began working with her Medicaid Service Coordinator (MSC), Bettieann was struggling to take care of her health. To ensure her safety, Bettieann’s MSC assisted her with obtaining residence in a group home. Bettieann has grown to love living at ACHIEVE’s Hamilton Drive Individualized Residential Alternative. She has developed wonderful relationships with her housemates and staff, and states that she enjoys helping her friends whenever possible. Bettieann is in ACHIEVE’s prevocational program where she works fulltime in the cafeteria at Cutler Pond Road. She has continually displayed a positive attitude and a high level of ambition, which has led to her successes.   

Bettieann is unable to eat many of the common foods that other people eat.  She has a strong desire to improve her health status and gain knowledge of her nutritional needs. Bettieann’s MSC assisted her with making a referral to Albany Medical Center to obtain the necessary specialists to guide her in this area. Bettieann has been improving her health status by working with the Residential Habilitation staff within her home on cooking and exercising. She has also attended special camps and programs to learn more about her condition and to meet others that deal with similar life circumstances. With her positive attitude and level of motivation for self-improvement, she has been able to learn and achieve in this area. 

Bettieann has a big heart and love for many people and animals. She has owned a parakeet for several years.  She has demonstrated responsibility for this pet through the level of care that she provides. She keeps the cage clean and ensures that her pet has sufficient food and water daily. Bettieann also spends time with her parakeet and has taken it to the veterinarian as needed. She enjoys spending holidays with her family, attending church on the weekends, completing crafts (including latch hook rugs), shopping, bowling, attending ACHIEVE’s Party Night, playing BINGO, tending her plants, and going to picnics and dances. Bettieann continually brings a smile to the faces of all the people around her.
